What is cbd?
CBD or cannabidiol is one of 100’s of the active chemical compounds found in hemp or cannabis plants. It is completely natural and non intoxicating. The most abundant compounds found in cannabis are delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD). THC is the psycho-active compound which we all know about and causes the high associated with cannabis, whereas CBD on the other hand is a non psychoactive compound and does not create any sort of high.
After extensive studies FDA(Food and Drug administration) has approved a form of CBD to treat epilepsy and seizures. Though research on the benefits is ongoing preliminary studies show that CBD can be used as alternate for pain medications , improving sleep and for reducing anxiety.
Now that we have an idea of what CBD is let’s look into what CBD oil is.
CBD oil is just a mixture of CBD and a carrier oil like MCT, hempseed oil etc. The carrier oil is used to improve the absorption of CBD into the bloodstream. CBD Oil can come in various different products such as
  • Oil or tinctures
  • Capsules
  • Edibles ( Gummies, brownies)
  • Vape oils

As we know CBD can be extracted from both hemp and marijuana. At terragano we use the highest quality industrial hemp which has less than 0.3% THC and is phytocannabinoid-rich (PCR) as the raw material for our CBD.

CBD and THC are the most prominent compounds found in cannabis. Both cannabis and hemp produce CBD and THC, but cannabis has a high concentration of THC whereas Hemp has a higher concentration of CBD. Both these compounds have the same chemical make up, but differ in the arrangement of the atoms due to which the body perceives them as separate entities and regulate the endocannabinoid system in different ways. THC is the psychoactive compound which gets you high whereas CBD is considered non-psychoactive and doesn’t get you high.

There are several ways to extract the cannabinoids from Cannabis and hemp such as
  • CO2 extraction
  • Solvent extraction
  • Olive Oil
We at terragano use super critical co2 extraction which gives the purest CBD products without any fear of the CBD being contaminated by solvents, resulting in pure CBD being extracted. Each method though has it’s own pro’s and con’s and some may be better suited for your own personal needs.

As we know by now CBD is the non-psychoactive compound unlike it’s infamous brother THC. We at Terragano use hemp which has less than 0.03% THC and once the CBD is extracted from the hemp we use a proprietary purification process to remove the traces of any THC that may have crept in during extraction therefore ensuring a high quality THC free CBD product which can be taken by one and all without any fear of getting high
